Red Rock Canyon Under Threat of Development

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, is under threat of a massive development plan.  Jim Rhodes, of Gypsum Resources Development Company, has applied to turn the Blue Diamond Hill into 7,000 homes, university/research facilities, strip malls, and business centers.  This land is currently zoned as rural, where land owners can only build one house per two acres.  Because GRDC has powerful legal backings and a massive budget, we need your support!  Don't let Jim build a small village that can be seen from all large formations in Red Rock!

The following photo shows the location of the proposed development area, and how close it is to world class climbing.

The next photo shows how close the proposed development area (green) is to the conservation area (red).

What can you do to help?

1. Educate yourself!  The following links provide more information on the issue:

2.  Make your voice heard!  Sign the petition. Write to Government Representatives.  With more voices heard, the greater strength each one will have.

3.  Show your support!  Attend the County Commission meeting at 9 AM on  August 17, 2011.  The meeting will be located at the Clark County Government Building, 500 South Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89155.

4.  Spread the word!  Tell your friends, family, even your enemies (they climb there too!).  Email, facebook, blog, twitter, text, or just talk to people.  Help spread the word and stop the massive development from happening!
